Inaugural Informal Hiking Club Hike

 




  • Route: Begin at Elkmont via Jakes Creek Trail (.3) to Meigs Mtn Trail (6.0) to Lumber Ridge Trail (4.1). End at GSMIT.
  • Description: One way from Elkmont to Tremont. Mostly level/downhill. Easy 10 miler, 2 campsites along trail.
  • Total Mileage: 10.4 miles
  • Timetable: Leave Elkmont at 8:20am, Meigs Mtn jct with Curry Mtn at 10:30, arrive at Lumber Ridge Trailhead at Tremont at 1pm.
  • Points of Interest: Mid-late 1800s cemetery on Meig's Mtn Trail .2 miles before campsite 19. Old homesites. Old homestead at Meigs Mtn trailhead; lot of wild boar sign (rooting) between campsite #20 and Curry Mtn trail jct; strong descent on Lumber Ridge Trail going east from Meigs Creek and Meigs Mnt jct; some nice vistas at same jct.
  • Wildlife: Suspected coyote scat, bear scat.
