Schoolhouse Gap Trail to Schoolhouse Gap (2.1 miles); Scott Mtn Trail to 35º38'28"N, 83º45'29" (.6 miles).

 

• Route: Schoolhouse Gap Trail to Schoolhouse Gap (2.1 miles); Scott Mtn Trail to 35º38'28"N, 83º45'29" (.6 miles).
• Total Mileage: 5.4 miles
• Description: SHGTrail is a wide, solid path: easy walking. Scott Mtn Trail to end was a very plesant stroll. Follows park boundary.
• Timetable: Left car at 8:45, returned to car at 10:45 (including a good bit of poking around in the woods).
• Points of Interest: Follows park boundary and leaves the part at a few places. There is a mini-vacation cabin at Schoolhouse gap with an access road leading back to Townsend. There is also a house on top of the mountain 1/4mile into Scott Mtn Trail. Being along the park boundary I heard a lot of gunshots and dogs barking.
• Wildlife: Deer prints, coyote or fox prints
